Our Story

Studio Muse owner - Amy Adams

Meet beauty entrepreneur and Mum of four boys, Amy Adams, who opened Pontcanna’s beautiful shop of self care, Studio Muse in February 2019.

With a career history spanning almost 20 years in Beauty it’s no wonder why Amy has created a retail boutique dedicated to the subject. In 2018 ‘life happened’ and after owning beauty salons for a number of years, Amy saw an opportunity to do something a bit different and make a positive change.

Amy became a Professional Make-up and Hair Artist at just 20 after attending the famous London College of Fashion. Very soon make-up brand Bobbi Brown saw Amy’s talent for (what was becoming) her signature style of ‘clean, minimal and editorial’ make-up design, something ahead of the times in 2003. Amy styled many brides for Bobbi Brown before starting her own beauty business and moving to the beautiful city of Bath.

“Bath was the epicentre of high-class weddings and events and soon I was in high demand up and down the country (and further!) as so many Women wanted to look and feel their most beautiful, but still like themselves”

With a passion for empowering Women and giving them confidence through beautiful, natural make-up design Amy furthered her studies by qualifying as an Aesthetician in Semi-permanent Make-up and Microblading. Enjoying the ability to restore lost features or enhance natural shape and definition became Amy’s mantra.

During 2018 Amy and her Husband welcomed their third Son. Benjamin was born very prematurely and needed a long stay at UHW Neonatal unit. It was during this time that the business of a beauty salon showed its’ ‘unfriendlier’ side and thus, as a family, they made the decision to pull away from this business model.

“This was an incredibly painful year for us as a family and our business during that time added immense, unwelcome strain on us. It was time to make a healthier choice for our wellbeing.”

After a period of reflection, re-evaluating what was important to them and taking a massive leap of faith, Amy happened upon an idea that would harness all the wonderful aspects of a beauty business and more. Self Care was more than ever important to Amy and 2018 allowed her the time to explore what made her feel good again, and bring her peace as severe anxiety and post-natal depression set in.

The beautiful premises of Studio Muse was the perfect home for Amy’s vision and it soon opened filled with a whole array of vegan self care, wellbeing and beauty products … and beautiful British flowers too!

“I remember thinking, can I actually sell flowers alongside lipstick and face cream? Why not? So we did!”

Skip forward a year or so, they have successfully navigated their way through the Covid-19 lockdowns and are now enjoying a comeback more beautiful than ever with the exciting launch of Amy’s first signature vegan face and body collection; Motto Botanicals and luxury vegan home fragrance collection Muse by Studio Muse.

Studio Muse has certainly become the go-to haven for all things ‘feel good and happy’ and as Amy says …

“I smile so much each time I hear someone tell me how much they enjoyed visiting our beautiful little shop, that was the goal; to open a ‘Shop of Lovely’, to feel good again and to spread some happiness to others too”
